Membership FAQs

The essence of the Crafts Center is the old adage, "Knowledge is power." Those of us who started and run businesses without a network of mentors to answer the countless questions that come up daily have lost time, made mistakes, spent money unwisely and suffered setbacks as a result. We learned from our mistakes. But those of us working with AEN want to share what we've learned so others will not have to waste their time, money and energy on the same questions.

Below is the first group of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) we received from artisan entrepreneurs from all parts of the world. There is rarely one, simple, "correct" answer to these questions. Circumstances, cultures and important details vary. Being a successful business owner means part of your time must also be spent being an tireless private detective: tracking down the information and contacts you need to maximize your efforts and minimize your risks. In this spirit, while our experts offer advice based on decades of their own experiences designing, producing, exporting and selling handmade products, we also try to give sources of more detailed information for each of you to pursue as needed.

If we have not adequately answered YOUR question here, or if you have a question not included in this group, please let us know by contacting us at craftscenter@chfinternational.org. We will update the FAQ regularly and will try to help you get the information you need to make your business a success. Also, please contact us if you have a better answer to a FAQ. We will publish your good advice on our website for the benefit of artisans everywhere.
